Which skill label should you trust?

Trust the word on the publisher’s own page — Beginner, Level 1, or Easy — and treat it as that brand’s rating, not a shared ranking. As of August 2026, the catalog has 12 Beginner listings and 14 Easy listings. For a first pattern, prefer a stated Beginner label. When a listing leaves skill blank, the publisher did not state one; that is not a shortcut.

Why does yarn weight belong in the first decision?

Super-bulky yarn makes a scarf grow quickly and shows large stitches. Worsted is the everyday middle. DK or finer means more stitches for the same length. Match the published yarn category on the listing; do not assume a substitute from the photo.

Scarf or dishcloth versus a garment?

A dishcloth or washcloth is a small rectangle. A scarf is a long rectangle you still want to wear. Hats, mittens, and fitted pieces add shaping and often circular work even when the publisher says Beginner. Finish a rectangle you like before you commit to a garment.
